Yeo Eng Peng
b. 1975, Muar, Johor, Malaysia
With masterful precision and a distinctive contemporary vision, Yeo Eng Peng—widely known as the “Pineapple Man”—celebrates his signature pineapple as a symbol of positivity, prosperity, and human connection. Through harmonious compositions and luminous colour, his works evoke calm, optimism, and timeless beauty.
Yeo Eng Peng is a Malaysian contemporary artist known for his meticulous technique and ability to transform everyday subjects into compelling visual narratives. Born in Muar, Johor, he developed an early appreciation for art through his surroundings, later pursuing formal training at the Kuala Lumpur College of Art, where he built a strong technical foundation and a disciplined approach to painting.
Over the years, Yeo has established himself as both an artist and educator. He is currently a lecturer at Dasein Academy of Art, the Vice-Chairman of the Malaysian Watercolour Society, and the Principal of Inspired Fine Art in Petaling Jaya. His active involvement in the art community reflects his commitment to both artistic excellence and the development of future talents.
Yeo began his practice with a strong focus on watercolour, a medium known for its sensitivity and technical demands. During a period when watercolour saw a decline in popularity due to the rise of contemporary art and large-scale works, he embraced the challenge of expanding his practice. Like many artists of his generation, he explored new mediums such as oil and acrylic, successfully translating his refined techniques into new forms while maintaining the essence of his original approach.
Since 2006, Yeo has participated in numerous exhibitions both locally and internationally, including Japan, China, Indonesia, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Australia, and Singapore. His exhibition highlights include international watercolour exhibitions, major art expos, and his solo exhibition “Harmony in Diversity” (2024), which reflects his exploration of cultural identity and visual harmony.
His works are widely recognised for their photorealistic precision and attention to detail, particularly in his signature tropical fruit series. Subjects such as coconuts, mangosteens, pineapples, and oil palm are rendered with remarkable clarity and depth, often appearing almost lifelike. Whether presented individually or in grouped compositions, these objects are elevated beyond their ordinary function, sometimes suggesting subtle human relationships and emotional undertones.
His artistic themes revolve around nature, culture, and the relationship between object and meaning. Through careful composition, controlled lighting, and refined textures, Yeo creates works that evoke a sense of stillness, balance, and contemplation.
More than an artist, Yeo Eng Peng is a visual storyteller—elevating everyday forms through his signature pineapple, a symbol of warmth, positive energy, and human connection.
